How to store the cheese and more
This Design Cheese is a handmade Gouda farmer cheese from Holland. Although they are looking great, they remain a natural food product. So you have to treat them well and you cannot store them for a very long time.
How to store and handle the Design Cheeses best!
The Design Cheeses are delivered packed in a vacuum bag for transportation (see photo below). In this vacuum package the cheese can have some heat.
There are two options to store the cheese:
- Keep it in the vaccum bag and put it in a cool place with a maximum of 13 degrees Celsius, 55.4 Fahrenheit in a fridge or cool cellar. In this way you can store the Design cheese for 6 to 8 weeks.
- Get the Design Cheese out of the vacuum bag and polish it with a clean towel. Wrap the Design Cheese in a clean dry towel and store it in a cool place (fridge or cool cellar). Put it in a fresh new towel once a week. Consume the Design Cheese within 6 to 8 weeks.
- The taste of the cheese is best on room temperature; so get the cheese out of the cold place two to three hours before consuming.
- Do not eat the plastic crust. Eat only the inner part of the cheese. That goes for all Dutch cheese. (If you accidentally eat a bit of the plastic, it is no problem. It is made of natural stuff; it has no bad effect on the environment).
- After you have cut open the cheese, consume it within 1 to 2 weeks. Cover the open cheese with a plastic food wrap, and store the cheese as written above.
Fresh Milk
- This cheese is made of fresh milk so we advise you not to eat it in case of pregnancy
